Some things I wish someone told me before launching my author website!

An author's website is not like a random website with stuff to sell. There are fan engagements, discussions, up-to-date information about the author, and a digital persona. This online persona is a must-have in this day and age for authors. And a good-looking author website can bring more joy.

You are not here to read my bio so rather than talking about myself, I want to tell you about the benefits of going online as an author. I am not talking about publishing eBooks online or making the digital copy available on Amazon – but the benefits an author can avail through a website, the things I wish someone told me before I launched my author website.

The most desirable benefit of creating an author website is promotion. You have an address to invite your fans and readers to a place where they can appreciate you and your works, better. Along with the social elements, the website gives numerous options to increase the number of visitors giving authors the chance to increase their potential readers and fans. With minimalistic and elegant author website design, where visitors can explore their interests through you, is the first step toward your fandom.

The first piece of advice is the content on your site and your target market. Always make sure that your author’s website is visible to the target market. As in my case, I looked for adding keywords on my website that target my core niches such as sci-fi, mystery, and romance. For someone new to the website world, getting used to Search Engine Optimization, SEO, is the biggest challenge. Always remember SEO is nothing but creating content that hit your target market with ease. You can write blogs based on your niche, provide helpful tidbits and go wild on social media.

Keep working on your book page. I wished someone told me before I began working on my author website that managing the page where customers buy your books is an essential page that requires more work than any other page. The thing is, your fans often search your book title on the search engine and it must be your book page that appears on top. The more you make your books’ page accessible, navigable, and user-friendly, the more sales you will generate. A few reminders on your book page are the integration of a reliable payment system such as PayPal and a catalog/slider of other books.

Creating a sales funnel, SEO terminology, where you create a funnel meaning everything on your website directs the visitor to the right area such as buying area or toward your books gallery.

When you design the author’s site and publish the content, remind yourself of one objective– give people a reason to come back. This can be done by interacting with your fans and staying up to date.

Lastly, always remember to give a lot of discounts and offers because you are the owner of your author’s website, and selling digital copies or even hard paper works is a piece of cake on an author’s website. If you are a writer, always remember that all authors are not programmers nor all programmers are authors. This means a programmer has to hire someone to design content that exhibits the true nature of the author. In my case, I hired Situdio Team for the design and programming works. Believe me, a good team of web developers can provide amazing results. An author’s website is not like a random website with stuff to sell. There are fan engagements, discussions, up-to-date information about the author, and a digital persona. This online persona is a must-have in this day and age for authors. And a good-looking author website can bring more joy.
